Yesterday, we went to the library to go to meet a gemologist, and hear him teach a class about gemology! It was an amazing class! First we sat down at tables, and got to look and play with a couple of rocks he had put on the tables. After a little while, he told up what his job was all about. Mining rocks, then looking and examining the rocks he'd mined. He then gave a small rocks and told us to do his job - looking and examining then. He told us, "You can look at them, feel them, smell them - you might even want to taste them!" and took a bite of the rock. I took a bite too...of course...they were fake chocolate rocks!
Here are some cool pictures of rocks - these were taken with my iPod so the quality won't be as nice as normal...

Different minerals obviously mixed together to form this rock |

This one almost felt like chalk, and we very light |

I picked this one up - you'd think it was heavy...it was a crazy weight! It probably weighed less then my dog Nellie! |
|
Oooh...pretty |

This rock is falling apart |
|
Look at all the crystals in that crack! |
