Yesterday's Gemology Class

Yesterday, we went to the library to go to meet a gemologist, and hear him teach a class about gemology!  It was an amazing class!  First we sat down at tables, and got to look and play with a couple of rocks he had put on the tables.  After a little while, he told up what his job was all about.  Mining rocks, then looking and examining the rocks he'd mined.  He then gave a small rocks and told us to do his job - looking and examining then.  He told us, "You can look at them, feel them, smell them - you might even want to taste them!"  and took a bite of the rock.  I took a bite too...of course...they were fake chocolate rocks!

Here are some cool pictures of rocks - these were taken with my iPod so the quality won't be as nice as normal...

Different minerals obviously mixed together to form this rock

This one almost felt like chalk, and we very light

I picked this one up - you'd think it was heavy...it was a
crazy weight!  It probably weighed less then my dog Nellie!

Oooh...pretty

This rock is falling apart

Look at all the crystals in that crack!

Cool right?  Well everyone, have a nice summer!  God bless you!
