Bottlenose Dolphin Paper 10/10/12

Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose Dolphins are amazing creatures, who are cute, friendly, and extremely intelligent, and who are loved around the world.

Their color is normally various shades of light blue, but some can even be pink!  Bottlenose Dolphins have the appearance of a permanent smiling face, which makes them look very friendly.  In fact, they are really friendly creatures.  Bottlenose dolphins have even rescued humans.  In November, 2004, four life guards were swimming far out in the ocean when a shark approached them.  Then, a herd of Bottlenose dolphins huddled around the lifeguards, so the shark couldn’t get the lifeguards.  Then, they all started swimming back to shore slowly, which took forty minutes, and the shark never got any of the lifeguards!*

Bottlenose Dolphins have 20 to 26 top teeth and 18 to 24 bottom teeth.  They are all pointed teeth and have no difference in use, and are almost the same shape.

Bottlenose dolphins get up to13 feet in length!  But for the most part, they are around 6 feet.  Bottlenose Dolphins are porpoises, just like all other dolphins.  They can even leap 15 to 20 feet into the air, and can swim up to 18 miles per hour.

Botttlenose dolphins, along with other dolphins, make cute, high-pitched squeaks.   Dolphins each have their own types of squeaks just like we have our own types of voices.  Each dolphin has a nasal sack in their melon for communicating with one another.  Dolphins use echolocation for hunting, and of course, communicating.  They can even make 1,000 clicking noises per second!  That’s amazing!

Bottlenose dolphins live in almost every ocean except the arctic and antarctic oceans.

Bottlenose dolphins can be taught complex tricks that other animals can’t be taught.  Bottlenose dolphins are amazing creatures that can do so many things, that other animals, you and I, can’t.
