Hello everyone! I have made a new paper called, "The Lego Company", and it's about THE LEGO COMPANY...if you couldn't guess that... first, here's the verse of the day: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12.
That was a really great verse for the new year! Now, here is THE LEGO COMPANY...
The Lego Company
Legos are plastic building blocks, invented by Ole Kirk Kristiansen. The first Lego Brick was made in Ole Kirk Kristiansen’s workshop, but now, Legos are made in Denmark, Hungary and Mexico.
Ole Kirk Kristiansen was inspired to make Lego Bricks by the“Kiddicraft” product which was invented by Hilary Page (1). Legos were first made by Ole in the year 1949 which were called “Automatic Binding Bricks”. A couple years later, Kirk Kristiansen renamed the “Automatic Binding Bricks”, now calling them: Lego Bricks. The word “Lego” comes from the Danish words, “Play well” which are pronounced, “Leg Godt”. Also, in Latin, “Leg Godt” means “I gather together”, and in Italian, the words mean “I connect” (2). When Ole Kirk Khristiansen died in 1958, his son, Godtfred Kirk Kristiansen inherited the job (2). Today the Lego company is still in the hands of the Kirk Kristiansen family (2).
Ole Kirk Christiansen first made Lego Bricks in his little workshop by hand with molds. But now, Legos are produced in factories in Denmark, Hungary and Mexico (2). Denmark is the main Lego headquarters (2). Legos are made in almost the same way that they were before, except in a quicker and more smooth production. First, melted plastic is put into Lego Brick - shaped molds. Then, the mold with Legos in them go through a cooling stage. After that, the Lego Bricks come out of the molds, go down a conveyor belt to be inspected. Normally, the Lego production is so accurate, that only 18 Lego Bricks out of one million Lego Bricks need to be discarded. Then, the finished Legos are packaged. Last, the Lego Bricks are shipped to all Lego Stores near you (2)!
Here are some fun facts about Lego Bricks! If all of the Lego Minifigures were chained together, it would stretch around the world, four times (3)! The Lego Company produces about 19 billion Lego bricks a year (1)! Children around the world spend 5 billion hours a year playing with Legos Bricks (3). One of the facts that I found, that I thought was cool, was the there are more than 915 million possible combinations for six two-by-four Lego Bricks (3)!
Lego Bricks are wonderful toys that let a child’s imagination run wild! I have spent many wonderful hours of my ten years of life playing with Lego Bricks, and having a blast! It looks like the old “Automatic Binding Bricks” , have really been catching on since they were first made! I look forward to playing with more Lego Bricks in my future.
